Finance Expert reacts to Jed York legal news as Leeds United PR position challenged
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...
Dan Plumley has insisted that Leeds United could take damage from a PR perspective as Jed York was named in a civil lawsuit over insider trading.
The Daily Mail shared the news back on 10 August, with York accused of unloading shares while concealing a scandal over an education website.
Plumley admitted that the matter did happen before the 49ers Enterprises takeover of Leeds, so it can be separated, with York a co-owner at Elland Road and the NFL side’s CEO.

“It’s more from a PR perspective where you’re looking at damage to Leeds,” he exclusively told MOT Leeds News.
“It’s not anything to do with Leeds United directly so there is separation there and it’s before the time the deal was fully through so you can separate that out.
“It’s similar to a Tottenham case with Joe Lewis, that reputation links him to them but he’s not directly connected, in a similar way here, that reputation will link that person to Leeds but it was at a time before the takeover was fully confirmed.

“From a club perspective, you can bat that away and say that was nothing to do with us at the time, but of course, from a PR perspective, people will make that link.
“What you’re trying to control there is the narrative from the club point of view and from a PR position and that will be where it stops and ends for Leeds.”
