Finance Expert reacts as Leeds United sign up with new betting parter
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...
Dan Plumley has insisted that Leeds United have found ways around the upcoming sponsor ban already with their new partnership with UniBet.
The Whites have confirmed that the betting company has become their training wear partner, with the front-of-short sponsorship ban coming into play in 2026.
The finance expert admitted that more clubs will start to do the same until the legislation becomes firmer and covers more angles.

“Absolutely,” he exclusively told MOT Leeds News.
“You’re already starting to see it, a training partner signed in this instance, and the ban only applies to the front of shirt. There are a lot of other commercial opportunities for clubs to go into with a range of partners, so it is absolutely no surprise to see clubs go into those types of deals.
“Again, you’re going to start to see more of those unless the legislation becomes more firm and covers more things.”

This is just another thing that the 49ers Enterprises have had to deal with ahead of their expected confirmed takeover of the club this week.
With the ban coming into force in a couple of years, we have already seen some clubs sign short-term deals to get as much money as they can from betting companies.
Leeds have gone down a different route.
