Finance expert: Leeds United in line for major windfall with Raphinha to be sold to highest bidder

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...

Leeds United are likely to part ways with star player Raphinha this summer amid growing interest in his services.

That’s according to Dr Dan Plumley who claims that, despite avoiding relegation, the Brazilian has played his last game for the Yorkshire outfit.

Had they gotten relegated, there’s a good chance that the Brazilian would have been sold for half the amount he’s likely to go for this summer.

Raphinha played a major role in keeping the Whites, scoring a final day penalty against Brentford – which by itself, would have been enough to keep Leeds up.

As Newcastle lost to Burnley, even a 1-1 draw against the Bees would’ve ensured that Jesse Marsch’s men finished in 17th.

Discussing the Raphinha situation, the Sheffield Hallam University expert told MOT Leeds News,

“I think Raphinha is a £60million player.

“He would have been sold for a lot cheaper had they got relegated.

“There were talks about it being somewhere around £30million.

“While I still think he will leave this summer, it’s about selling him to the highest bidder and I think that’s what will most likely happen.

According to 90 Min Spain journalist Juan Medina, Barcelona and PSG are the two clubs that are linked with him.

It is understood that he fancies a move to the Nou Camp and so does his agent Deco – a former Barcelona player.

In other Leeds United news, a first-team player may fancy a move to Manchester United to reunite with idol this summer.
