Finance expert: Andrea Radrizzani could have head turned over Leeds United sale as unnamed third party enters race
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...
Andrea Radrizzani could yet have his head turned by an offer to sell Leeds United to someone other than the 49ers, according to Dan Plumley.
The Daily Mail reported on 5 January that the 49ers’ bid to buy Leeds “could face opposition from a middle eastern buyer”.
It is understood that Radrizzani has an agreement to sell his majority shareholding of Leeds to 49ers Enterprises, who currently own 44 per cent of the Yorkshire club.
However, a third party from the Middle East could barge in on the 49ers’ takeover efforts. The Mail says: “Sources have disclosed that an as-yet unnamed third party has shown a shock interest in stealing a march on the 49ers and taking over at Elland Road.”
Finance expert Plumley admits that until it’s a done deal between Radrizzani and the 49ers, there’s always the chance of the Italian businessman being persuaded into a sale with someone else.
However, Leeds fans may prefer to stick with the 49ers, who’ve been gradually building up their ownership at Leeds in recent years.
Speaking to MOT Leeds News, Plumley said: “I think with Leeds’ history with the 49ers and how this has always been geared up for them to take over, how the relationship has evolved, this is more likely heading down that road.
“You can always have your head turned by an offer, for sure. But how much better an offer is it in financial terms?
“I just think the amount of work that’s gone into the Leeds United and 49ers tie-up, you’d be going down that road.
“Most Leeds fans, at this point, would probably be in favour of carrying on with the 49ers if they had the choice.”
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are keen on signing this Wolves player in January.
