FA could investigate after what Middlesbrough fans did in loss v Leeds United
Keith Hackett insists the FA could investigate if Middlesbrough fans went too far with their questioning of the linesman against Leeds United.
The Whites cruised to a 3-1 victory over Boro at Elland Road on 10 December, but away fans were unhappy with numerous offside decisions, which led to direct chants and abuse behind the official.
Hackett admitted that security would have been involved if it became abusive, with a possible special incident report filed after the game, despite several wrong decisions being called out.
Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, the ex-PGMOL chief and former Premier League referee admitted that fans are allowed to voice their opinion within reason before it is possibly reported.
“If the fans’ action is before halftime the referee can have a word with the Match Commander and they can increase the amount of security in that area,” he said.
“Frankly, the fans pay their money and within reason are allowed to shout.
“However, this has to be acceptable language. If it becomes abusive or threatening then you would expect security to get involved.
FA to investigate after Leeds United v Middlesbrough?
“They are of course briefed on these matters.
“Finally, the match officials can Send a special incident report to The Football Association for them to investigate.”

With two sets of passionate supporters watching a full-blooded affair, there were always bound to be some complaints from either side at a jam-packed Elland Road.
It didn’t look as though the Boro fans went too far with their questioning of the linesman and officials, though, with chants expected at every game.
This one will likely be filed in the ‘nothing to see here’ category.
