MOT Leeds News conducted an exclusive interview with Leeds Live journalist Beren Cross, getting his views on the biggest talking points from Elland Road…
Beren Cross has shared that Leeds United winger Ian Poveda has improved drastically since the enforced lockdown.
The young winger made his Championship debut for the Whites in the 2-0 defeat against Cardiff and has since gone on to feature against Fulham.
Stuart Dallas has already showered praise on the youngster, claiming that the Leeds squad know how good he can become.
Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Cross said: “Poveda is someone we are told did impress upon the return to training last month.”
“He has kept his head down and not rocked the boat, despite coming in as a bona fide first-team player from Manchester City. He is small in stature, but as with some of those at the top of the game, height and physical build is no barrier to excellent performances.”
With Marcelo Bielsa allowed to name nine substitutes in the Championship and use five of them, it has given a great opportunity to Poveda to breakthrough at Elland Road.
We have watched Poveda closely in the under-23s since his arrival from Manchester City in January, and the improvement is clear to see.
At first, the young winger was scared to get on the ball and take on his man, often losing possession. As the games went on, he got brave and expressed his talents frequently down the right-hand side – catching the eye particularly in the draw against Barnsley.
With five games to play, Poveda is almost certainly going to get another chance to shine as Leeds close in on promotion.
