Exclusive: Paul Robinson rips into £35k/wk Leeds star after 'disappointing' season
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson has said he’s been left disappointed by Eddie Nketiah this season.
Nketiah still hasn’t started for Leeds in the Championship, despite looking sharp and dangerous when he’s come on as a sub.
There’s now growing speculation that he could be recalled by Arsenal in January because of a lack of game-time.
Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said, “I think this is harsh to say but Eddie Nketiah, since he’s come in, has been disappointing.
“He’s not been given much of a chance, to be fair to him, which is probably the most disappointing thing.
“When Patrick Bamford wasn’t scoring the manager never looked like he was going to change it or put Nketiah into the team.
“He got his injury, he’s been out for a while and is back in now so it’ll be interesting to see how and if he’s used between now and January because I suspect that Arsenal will want him back.
“If he’s got other options, if there’s an option to go back to Arsenal and go out on loan again in January and play every week, as a player that’s something that you’d want, and I believe Nketiah would probably look at that if he’s not getting his chance.”
Nketiah came on for the last ten minutes of the game against Middlesbrough and again on Saturday against Huddersfield but didn’t get on the scoresheet in either game.
He looked off the pace in the Huddersfield game but it’s always tough to come on in the closing stages of a game as a striker and make a mark when your side is winning comfortably.
According to Football Insider, Nketiah is on £35k-a-week at Arsenal – if he was recalled it would free up some money for Leeds to bring in a replacement.
