Exclusive: 'Brilliant' – Paul Robinson thrilled as big Leeds announcement expected shortly
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson has hailed news of an upcoming ‘blockbuster’ deal with Adidas for next season as “brilliant” for Leeds.
It’s been no secret that Adidas have been in talks with Leeds and Football Insider has now reported that the new kit deal is expected to be made this month.
Adidas are expected to be announced as the kit supplier, although Leeds have also been in talks with Nike and Under Armour.
Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said, “It’s a brilliant deal for Leeds, lining up with a manufacturer the size of Adidas.
“It shows how the club is thought of in the football world.
“Leeds are seen as a Premier League club and it now has to do the job of a Premier League side.”
That’s not looking as clearcut as it was before Christmas when Leeds had an 11-point buffer back to third place. Now the gap is just three points after Leeds lost to Wigan on Saturday.
“There’s still a job to do,” Robinson added. “I don’t think anyone played badly against Wigan on Saturday but it’s a game Leeds should have won.
“It’s the same story we’re talking about week-in, week-out, dominating games, creating 15-20 chances and not putting the game to bed.
“This is the best chance Leeds have ever had to get out of the Premier League.”
Leeds have a new striker on board and Jean-Kevin Augustin will already know the size of the job that he’s going to be tasked with in the second half of the season.
If he can fire Leeds to the Premier League he will be an instant legend and he will be the first of a group of players to wear the new kit – likely to be Adidas – in the Premier League.
That should be motivation enough for him.
