Exclusive: Paul Robinson – This is who I believe will be number one striker for Leeds

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Paul Robinson has said that he doesn’t expect Jean-Kevin Augustin to start against Wigan but that it’s only a matter of time before he is “starting every week”.

He also said that the other new January signing, Ian Poveda, would come into the team soon.

Augustin signed for Leeds on Monday and admitted in his first public outing that while he was 100% fit, it would take him time to adapt to the Championship.

However, we expect to see him named on the bench for the game at Elland Road on Saturday and Robinson thinks he will usurp Patrick Bamford as the number one striker shortly.

Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said, “Leeds are building for the future, that’s for sure.”

Asked whether Augustin would come straight into the side on Saturday Robinson said, “It depends on his match fitness.

“He hasn’t played much for Monaco this season, I think he’s started two league games. He’s scored one goal. He’s not got a great record this season and it might take him a bit of time to get up to fitness.

“I think it would take any player some time to get up to the fitness levels that Bielsa wants, what he demands.

“I can’t see him coming straight into the starting line-up, I think it will take him two or three weeks.

“Poveda will come into the team. And I think it’s only a matter of time before we see Augustin starting every week for Leeds.”

Leeds fans will be hoping that they get their first glimpse of Augustin in a Leeds shirt on Saturday.

The new striker did the Thursday press conference and has already endeared himself to the supporters by choosing Leeds over Man United and by saying the passion of the fans against Millwall made him want to die for the club.

He’s doing all the right things off the pitch. Now fans want to see what he can do on it.
