Exclusive: Paul Robinson slams Diego Llorente play-acting

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United

Paul Robinson has slammed Diego Llorente for an incident in the 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa.

Llorente, recently back from injury, went down under a challenge from Ollie Watkins.

After rolling a few times in seeming agony, Watkins pulled him up and Llorente snapped back into action and went after the Villa striker, the injury seemingly forgotten about.

There was very little contact from Watkins and many Leeds fans laid into their own defender after the game.

Robinson added his voice to them saying that there is no place in the Premier League for playacting and that it’s the last thing Leeds fans will want to see from their centre-back.

Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News Robinson said, “It was over the top and uncalled for and you can’t have that in the Premier League. There is no place for it in the Premier League.

“The last thing you want to see is your centre-back rolling around like that.

“I don’t think Ollie Watkins should react the way he did, pulling him up like that, especially as Llorente has just come back from injury.

“But he’ll know the contact on Llorente, he knows he hasn’t touched him and he’s obviously reacted with frustration.

“You shouldn’t do that but you can understand where he’s coming from.

“Bielsa needs to have a word with Llorente and just tell him we don’t do things like that at Leeds.”

Hopefully, that’s the last we see of that from Llorente.

We do things differently at Leeds. We don’t want our players to dive and we don’t want to see players trying to get the opposition booked or sent off.

On the bright side, that’s the second game Llorente has got through and he’s starting to look like a really solid defender.
