Exclusive: Paul Robinson reveals how he thinks Leeds will finish season after key EFL update

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Paul Robinson has said he believes that Leeds will now win the Championship on merit after they were given a restart date of June 20.

If football does resume it will mark the end of a very long and torturous road since the season was suspended in March.

Leeds would resume top of the Championship with nine games left and would have a one-point lead over West Brom and a seven-point lead over Fulham in third.

Robinson believes they will go on and lift the title.

Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said, “I think Leeds are going to win the league by merit.

“They want to finish their games and get the points. Then no one can turn round and say, ‘You went up by default, you went up using a system that’s never been used before’.”

Leeds are in a great position to avoid that. But listen, it’s got to the point with Leeds that you’d take promotion however it’s offered.

“If it’s points-per-game you won’t find a lot of Leeds fans complaining about it, even if the majority want to go up on merit. If the Premier League is going to finish, the Championship should finish.”

We’ve love it if Leeds win the title and go up in style.

But we’d take going up on points-per-game. And we’d take going up in second.

All we care about is promotion and Leeds are closer than ever at the moment.
