Exclusive: Paul Robinson praises Leeds 22y/o after win v Reading, makes Championship prediction

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Paul Robinson has hailed 22-year-old loanee Ben White after another brilliant performance from the centre-back in the 1-0 win against Reading, and predicted Leeds United would be “right near the top” of the Championship come January.

The win on Tuesday night, secured by a goal from Jack Harrison in the 87th minute, took Leeds back to the top of the table, one point ahead of West Brom.

Slaven Bilic’s side have a game in hand and play Bristol City at The Hawthorns on Wednesday night.

Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said, “Ben White has been brilliant for Leeds this season and I think the problem they have is keeping hold of him.

I think since he has come in, he has looked mature, experienced, comfortable on the ball, and he’s had two different partners as well.

Berardi went off injured against Luton, but Cooper came back in against Reading, which is good.

Cooper coming back in alongside Ben White, that pairing has been very good.”

Talking about the season so far, Robinson said Leeds are “exactly where they want to be” after four wins on the bounce.

“There’s a little gap starting to form between them and teams like Fulham and Preston.

“Leeds’ next five or six games are very friendly fixtures, too, so I fully expect them to be right near the top of the table come the end of December and the new year.”

White was solid in defence last night but he also showed plenty of attacking ambition, something that’s becoming more a feature of his game.

He completed 10 of 12 attacking third passes, won all of his tackles and had two shots in the game against Reading. He also had four touches in Reading’s box and one of Leeds’ better chances to score. [WyScout]
