We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United
Paul Robinson has claimed that Leeds United will secure their Premier League status by the end of the week.
He is predicting two wins for Leeds, first a 3-0 win against Southampton on Tuesday night, and then a tighter 2-1 win against Villa on Saturday.
Those two wins would be highly likely to give Leeds enough points to confirm their Premier League status for another season.
It would leave Leeds on 38 points with 12 games left to play.
Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News Robinson said, “I think Leeds will win both games this week. They were really good against Wolves without getting a result.
“Bielsa will have been very pleased about what he saw from his players last Friday.
“I’m going to say that they’ll beat Southampton at home 3-0. Southampton are not on a good run at the moment and it’s a big opportunity for three points tonight.
“The Aston Villa game will be a lot tighter. Villa are a very good outfit this season, but I think that Leeds will beat them 2-1.
So, 3-0 against Southampton, 2-1 against Aston Villa and Premier League safety confirmed by the end of the week.”
This would do very nicely for Leeds fans and it would be a huge achievement for the club.
Only once in the last 10 seasons has a team needed more than 38 points to stay up, in the 10/11 season when Birmingham went down with 39 points.
The teams at the bottom of the table this season don’t look capable of getting near that points total.
