Exclusive: Paul Robinson – I'm at Leeds training ground 3 nights a week, this is what I've seen

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds…

Paul Robinson has claimed that Marcelo Bielsa has a way of getting the very best out of his players.

He thinks that Bielsa’s man-management skills are up there with his knowledge of the game, and that the language barrier isn’t causing problems between the manager and his players.

Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said, “All managers are different but Marcelo Bielsa has just got a way about him, he’s got a way of getting the very best out of players and working with them hard, but also having their respect.

“My son’s at the Academy so I’m there three nights a week and it’s not unusual to see the players coming out at 6.30pm, and it doesn’t seem to bother them.

“When I played, if a manager was keeping you there till 6pm, there would be half the squad wanting to leave, there would be so many of them moaning, there would be all sorts of different rumblings coming out of the squad, but he’s got everybody on board.

“His man-management skills seem to go alongside his football knowledge and his football management skills and he seems to be the all-round package.

“His communication skills… Obviously with the language barrier communication has been difficult but yet he is still able to get that relationship with the players.”

Bielsa has been a huge hit with the Leeds fans. He took over a squad of players that finished 13th in the Championship in the 17/18 season and took them to within a whisker of promotion last season.

Leeds are currently third in the Championship and are the bookies’ favourites to get promoted this season.
