Exclusive: Paul Robinson 'concerned' by Bielsa update v Nottingham Forest

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Paul Robinson has revealed that he is ‘concerned’ after Marcelo Bielsa gave a downbeat assessment of Jean-Kevin Augustin ahead of the crunch game against Nottingham Forest.

The two teams face off at the City Ground on Saturday evening and it seems the Leeds fans are going to be left waiting for their first sight of the new striker.

Bielsa said in his pre-match press conference on Thursday that Augustin was only at around 50% after arriving from Monaco having not played much football this season.

He didn’t confirm that he wouldn’t be involved today but it seems unlikely, especially after he played 45 minutes for the Under23s on Friday night.

UPDATE: Augustin has been named on the bench for today’s game against Nottingham Forest!

Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News Robinson said, “I’m concerned – Leeds need someone who can score now.

“Augustin is a top-class player but he’s only started two games this season, came on as a sub in others and scored one goal.

“To cope with demands that Bielsa wants on a daily basis in training and on match day it’s a huge ask for anybody, never mind someone who’s not match fit.

“How long it takes him to get match fit is anyone’s guess, hence why he wasn’t on the bench last week.

“Bielsa doesn’t want to use him because he has to learn the Bielsa way. My only concern is, will he be ready quick enough to come into the team when it counts for Leeds?”

Bielsa got a bit touchy when he was quizzed about Augustin but his fitness is a big issue for Leeds.

The Forest game is massive, then it’s over to Griffin park for a huge game against Brentford on Tuesday.

It’s possible that Augustin could miss both of these games and this is a period that could really damage Leeds’ automatic promotion charge.

The big question that Bielsa didn’t answer is if not now, when will he be ready?
