'Completely different deal': Exclusive– Paul Robinson says one thing stopping Jan QSI investment

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Paul Robinson has said that uncertainty over where Leeds will play next season is a big reason why potential QSI investment won’t happen in the January window.

Investment from the QSI group has been talked about all season, with the Daily Star saying Leeds were on the bring of selling a 20% stake in the club.

Talk started again on social media last week but there’s been no official update and with the January window closing in less than two weeks it looks unlikely that a fresh injection of money will be coming in before the summer.

Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, we asked if Robinson had heard anything about possible QSI investment in January.

“I can’t see it happening at the moment with the uncertainty around the club,” Robinson said.

“Radrizzani won’t want to take money at the moment when Leeds could well be in the Premier League in a few months.

“In the same way, investors won’t want to pay Premier League money when Leeds could still be in the Championship next season.

“I don’t think anything will happen until the summer. In the summer it’s a completely different deal that you’re discussing, a 20% or a 50% stake in a Premier League club.”

Fans have been desperately hoping for investment in January but it’s doubtful that Leeds could spend much this month anyway, without taking a gamble over future penalties.

The EFL have charged Championship rivals Derby with “excess losses” and that brings into focus again the need to stay within Profit & Sustainability levels.

Leeds could gamble on getting promoted to the Premier League, where EFL sanctions wouldn’t apply, but it’s a big risk and given Leeds’ history, one that we can’t see Radrizzani taking.
