Exclusive: Paul Robinson claims first-team star needs new contract and can do a job in PL

We’re delighted to welcome former Leeds and England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds…

Paul Robinson has said that Pablo Hernandez can still do a job in the Premier League and that Leeds need to offer him a new contract.

Hernandez had a standout season for Leeds in the 18/19 campaign and started this season off strongly, with two goals in the first two games.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds news, Robinson said, “I’d reward him with a new contract… I think he’s done very, very well this season.

“I think he’s been important, I think that’s half the reason Jack Clarke’s not got a look in as well and the fact that he can play in any of the three attacking midfield roles or as a four in midfield, I think his versatility is excellent.”

Leeds are reportedly set to open talks over a new contract for the 34-year-old, who is out of contract in the summer.

His deal expires in the summer but he will get another year automatically if Leeds are promoted.

And Robinson also thinks he can still do a job in the Premier League.

“If he keeps himself fit and looks after himself, sure. Ronaldo’s 34 and he’s scored his 700th career goal this week so there’s no reason that he can’t if he keeps himself fit and looks after himself – and I don’t think anything else under Bielsa is an option.”
