Exclusive: Paul Robinson claims 22y/o set to be Leeds record signing in the summer

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Paul Robinson has said that 22-year-old striker Jean-Kevin Augustin will become Leeds’ record signing in the summer.

Augustin signed on Monday on an initial loan with an option to buy if Leeds get promoted.

Leeds’ long-standing record signing is Rio Ferdinand, who joined for £18m back in 2000.

Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said, “If Leeds do get promoted I’ve heard Augustin is going to become their record signing. He’s a loan with an option to buy at the moment.

“He’ll beat what Leeds paid for Rio.

“Looking at [Ian] Poveda as well you can tell that Bielsa is building for the Premier League.

“Augustin has come in, he’s on trial really. He’s only 22 and it’s a calculated risk from Leeds but he’s a talented player.

“There are question marks over him given what’s happened so far in his career but it’s a calculated risk.”

A Bild article claimed that Leeds had an obligation to buy Augustin in the summer if they were promoted.

The figure they mentioned was under £18m but it looks like Leeds might have to pay more for the striker.

One way or another, though, we do expect Leeds to break their transfer record if they get promoted. Possibly more than once.
