Exclusive: Leo Hjelde due in Leeds imminently

Leeds United are finally closing in on another signing with Celtic defender Leo Hjelde nearing Elland Road.

MOT Leeds News have been exclusively told by Nettavisen reporter Stian Andre de Wahl that the Norweigian enforcer is due in West Yorkshire imminently.

That is to complete his medical ahead of signing the necessary paperwork to complete our latest transfer for the academy.

MOT Leeds News were in contact with De Wahl on Twitter and asked how close Hjelde was to completing his medical ahead of the move.

The Norwegian journalist shared that is was expected imminently, meaning it could be completed over the weekend.

“I’m not sure on the exact day,” he said. “I heard it was right around the corner.”

Marcelo Bielsa admitted that if no senior players were to come through the door this month, he would still be happy with his squad.

This move would be for Mark Jackson’s under-23s squad first, with the hope that Hjelde can kick on and challenge for the first team as soon as possible.

Olly Casey has already left this summer to join Championship side Blackpool, and that gap appears to have been filled by this move.

With Hjelde due in West Yorkshire imminently, the move could be announced as early as this weekend.

The under-23s start their season at the start of next week, and Jackson will want the move for the “next Virgil van Dijk” completed as soon as possible.

It’s coming soon.
