We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Paul Robinson has said that Leeds will get a major transfer boost if the San Francisco 49ers increase their stake in the club.

The New York Times revealed that the 49ers are in talks with Andrea Radrizzani about putting more money into the club.

49ers executive and Leeds board member Paraag Marathe said the group is “absolutely hoping” to increase their stake in Leeds after buying 10% of the club in 2018.

Radrizzani said that he expects the 49ers to “help more” and added, “[The 49ers] have done a good deal investing in the club with me because they see their investment already worth probably 3.5 times higher in terms of value of what they put [in].”

Robinson thinks an increased partnership would be “fantastic” for Leeds.

Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said of the talks with the 49ers, “Will it give Leeds more money to spend on players? Without a doubt.

“There’s been talk of the QSI group and the 49ers for a long time now so I don’t think there’s any secret that Leeds are looking for new investment.

“It’s not just the money, though. Along with the money you get the business and sporting acumen that the 49ers bring with them.

“Look at the business acumen and the sporting knowledge in the group. Let’s not forget, the 49ers are a massive global company and the partnership is fantastic for Leeds.

“They bring so much to the table – business expertise, sporting nouse and how to grow a global sporting brand. But it would also give Leeds more money to spend on players.”

While fans have been getting excited about the QSI group’s riches, the 49ers were going under the radar.

With a stake in the club already and a successful partnership that’s been on the cards since 2011, more investment from the US group seems to fit better with Leeds’ quest for continuity and consolidation.

It would also leave Radrizzani at the helm, which we think is key for the foreseeable future.
