We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Sky Sports pundit Paul Robinson has said that 22-year-old striker Jean-Kevin Augustin is “on trial” at Leeds between now and the end of the season.
The striker signed on loan until the end of the season but hasn’t started a game yet and is currently out with a hamstring injury.
Robinson has said that Augustin has “a lot to prove” at Leeds as they look to secure promotion to the Premier League.
Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News Robinson said, “Should Leeds sign him on a permanent deal? It depends what league we’re in and how fit he gets himself between now and the end of the season.
“I think basically he’s on trial between now and the end of the season. I don’t know the ins and outs of the deal and whether it’s an obligation – I wouldn’t have thought it would be.
“His career has been stop-start for a long time. He went to RB Leipzig and they farmed him out on loan to Monaco.
“He’s got a lot to prove and I’d say that between now and the end of the season he’s on trial for his career at Leeds.”
Augustin certainly hasn’t had the impact that fans were hoping he’d have when he signed it what was a fairly sensational deal.
According to Athletic journalist Phil Hay, the loan deal becomes an obligation if Leeds get promoted and an option if they don’t.
However, this hasn’t been officially confirmed and either one would depend on Augustin wanting to join Leeds.
obligation to sign if they go up. Option to sign if they don’t.
