Exclusive: Charles De Ketelaere says no to major Leeds transfer, deal could still happen
Charles De Ketelaere has said no to a major transfer to Leeds United in recent days, but that doesn’t mean it’s the end of that pursuit, according to Alexandre Braeckman.
Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, the RTL Sports journalist has shared that if the Whites are still pushing for a deal, they must have been given a reason to from those close to the player.
The Club Brugge star is said to want Champions League football ahead of the World Cup with Belgium, something AC Milan can offer, with the Italians set to make it hard for Leeds at this stage.
Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Braeckman shared what happened when the Whites made first contact with the player and his camp.
“De Ketelaere said no when Leeds contacted him a few days ago,” he said.
“But I’m not around the table, if they’re pushing through, there must have a reason. If they think they can convince him, then they’re right to try, as we are talking about an absolutely brilliant player.
“De Ketelaere needs to play, as he’s looking for a spot in the Belgium squad for the World Cup, but I know he’d like to play Champions League. So if Milan comes too, which is likely to happen, I think it will be hard for Leeds.”
It would appear strange that Leeds would still push for this move if De Ketelaere has already said no to a potential move to Elland Road in the next two months.
If AC Milan don’t make their move and that is off the table, it could be that the Belgian star would rather make that switch to the Premier League rather than stay put.
Leeds would surely be able to offer much bigger wages and the prospect of moving on to a bigger team sooner, not that we want to be seen as a stepping stone.
Victor Orta was to said to have been spotted flying out to Brussels today [30 June], although that hasn’t confirmed, it is still an exciting thought that he could be pushing into negotiations.
Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips are on their way out and money is there to be spent, will De Ketelaere be the first through the door of this imminent transfer blitz?
Time will tell, there is some convincing to do.
