‘Excellent’ Crysencio Summerville’s injury may ‘play into Leeds United’s favour’ amid Burnley links

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United …

Crysencio Summerville’s injury may benefit Leeds United as it could keep prospective clubs from signing him, according to Paul Robinson.

The Dutch forward has been linked to a move back to the Premier League, with The Mirror reporting (5 August) that Burnley are interested in a move. However, the 21-year-old sustained an injury in Leeds’ opening-day clash against Cardiff City after scoring the late equaliser.

With the goalscorer set for up to three weeks on the sidelines, his importance to the side has been made clear and an Elland Road departure would weaken Leeds significantly.

However, Robinson claims that this injury may be a blessing in disguise for the Elland Road faithful and that he may stay at the club longer than many predicted.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “It’s obviously it’s gonna be a huge blow, but the reality is that he could also leave the club. I think Summerville being injured may play in the club’s hands.

“It could play into Leeds’ favour, the fact that he may have to stick around if he’s injured passes when the transfer window passes.

“There are not many clubs that buy players when they’re injured. That could be a good thing for Leeds.

“Summerville was excellent and proved his worth at the end of last season and was playing ahead of others when people thought others should be playing. He got his place in the team and did really well.

“I think in the Championship, he’s already proven in one game that he’ll do well and he’ll stand out. He like others in the physio room will be missed.”
