Everton would be rejected by Daniel James as Leeds United update emerges from Fabrizio Romano - BBC pundit

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...

Paul Robinson fails to see how Daniel James would leave Leeds United for Everton after the winger was linked with a move to Goodison Park.

Ahead of Leeds’ game against Everton at Elland Road on Tuesday night (30 August), Fabrizio Romano reported on Monday morning (29 August) that the Toffees have made an enquiry about signing the 25-year-old Wales international.

Tottenham are also said to be looking into a deadline-busting move for the former Manchester United and Swansea attacker.

Robinson believes that if James sits out the game against Everton on Tuesday, it won’t be down to transfer speculation as he suggests that Everton would be an easy club to reject if they make a formal move before the deadline.

However, the ex-goalkeeper suggests Tottenham may cause an issue for the Whites and it would be hard for James to turn down a move to the Champions League club.

“Leeds have got to play him regardless [of the speculation],” Robinson told MOT Leeds News.

Everton are a team like Leeds who want to stay in the Premier League this year, the aim is to finish 17th and above. Everton are going to be one of Leeds’ competitors.

I can’t see him being interested in a move to Goodison, that would only be a sideways move at the moment with where the clubs are at right now.

If Tottenham come knocking, that’s different as they’re offering Champions League football and they’re going places at the moment. It could be difficult to fend off a bid from Tottenham but the Everton one would be an easy one to rebuff and I don’t think they’d pay the money Leeds would want.

And from James’ point of view, I don’t see how that would be advancing his career at all. I don’t think he’ll be left out of the team tonight for those reasons.”

James has started Leeds’ last two Premier League games against Chelsea and Brighton.

He was substituted off after less than an hour at the AMEX at the weekend as the Whites lost 1-0 to Graham Potter’s in-form Seagulls.
