Elland Road developments emerge as expert reacts to Leeds United update
Dan Plumley admits that clubs should always own their stadiums after Leeds United paperwork confirming that at Elland Road recently.
The Whites confirmed full control of their stadium on 17 January, with Companies House documents being released to their system (Kieran Maguire).
Leeds announced full control of Elland Road back in July 2024, with expansion plans now really gathering speed in LS11.
Plumley, a football finance expert, admits that it may not always stay with the club should another takeover happen, but it remains a real positive at this stage.
“You would still have to look at any future scenarios as to what would happen if it were to be sold,” he exclusively told MOT Leeds News.
“Of course, we know that stadiums can change hands and that sometimes links to ownership.
“My take on it is that it is always better for the club to own it, and that is kind of paramount to the success of a football club and protecting that as its biggest asset.
“I think that is clear for everyone to see so I think the club should own their stadium.

“It doesn’t always work that way and there are reasons, some positive and not so positive, so it doesn’t keep it indefinitely in that space, but the general rhetoric is that you would want to own your stadium, so it’s a positive in that regard.”

Paraag Marathe and the 49ers Enterprises have made it no secret that upgrading Elland Road is at the heart of their plans, with Angus Kinnear keeping everyone updated.
Plans to expand the stadium could start with promotion to the Premier League (Mike McGrath), which could and should happen within months, maybe even weeks in West Yorkshire.
That is one to keep a real keen eye on.
In other Leeds news, the Whites have made a “massive loss” on one player whose exit was confirmed in the last few days.
