Brighton issued Crysencio Summerville transfer warning after what happened at Leeds United
Don Goodman has warned Brighton and Hove Albion they will be taking a “leap of faith” should they sign Crysencio Summerville from Leeds United.
Brighton have emerged as the most likely contenders to sign Summerville, with initial talks said to have been held [Fabrizio Romano, 17 June].
Chelsea and Manchester United have also been credited with an interest in the Dutchman, who could cost in excess of £30million [GiveMeSport, 17 June].
However, given Summerville’s underwhelming form in the closing stages of the 2023-24 campaign, Goodman is curious as to whether any club will actually go that high with an offer.
“I don’t think what happened over the last eight games would have helped Leeds or Summerville,” Goodman told MOT Leeds News. “Whoever takes him, it will be a leap of faith that he can replicate those first 35 games, rather than the final ones.
“It’s an interesting one and I’m fascinated to see where Summerville ends up and how much Leeds can get for him.
“It’s a very, very difficult market where clubs are having to balance their books – Leeds among them – so teams will only go so far in terms of what they can pay for a player.”
Leeds United ace Crysencio Summerville attracting plenty of transfer attention
With a number of clubs said to be interested in Summerville, it would not be a surprise should a transfer battle play out.
However, that is more likely to happen towards the end of the window, rather than in the first week, so Leeds may have to be patient – albeit not too patient due to the PSR concerns.
News of Brighton making an initial approach suggests that teams are at least now starting to put out the feelers, so to speak, with regards to a move.
The Seagulls are probably now aware of how much it will cost to sign Summerville, and it is on them whether they proceed with a deal or not.
Quite whether Leeds can get close to – or indeed more than – £30m remains to be seen. What does seem pretty certain, though, is that Summerville will not be at Elland Road next season.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are said to be happy amid news of a player exit edging closer.
