Don Goodman raises ‘massive’ Leeds United transfer point as priority sales named

Don Goodman is hoping to see Leeds United offload players who spent last season out on loan, rather than other key names, once the summer transfer window opens.

The likes of Crysencio Summerville, Willy Gnonto and Archie Gray have been linked with the Elland Road exit following last week’s play-off final heartbreak [Mirror].

While losing one or two regulars from last season is inevitable, Goodman hopes selling the likes of Jack Harrison, Max Wober and Brenden Aaronson could ensure more important players stay.

And even with multiple exits likely, Goodman does not believe “massive” Leeds will struggle to attract players of a similar calibre.

“They’ll obviously lose players like Summerville, Gnonto, possibly one or two others, but let’s hope it’s the lads out on loan they will be getting rid of,” he told MOT Leeds News.

“Reports suggest they need to raise £100m so they need money. Daniel Farke will be aware his squad will look a bit different, but then it’s down to the recruitment team because attracting players to Leeds of high calibre shouldn’t be difficult – it’s a massive, massive club.

“There’s an easy argument to be made that it’s the biggest club in the Championship – supporters of other teams may disagree – but it’s an attractive club if you’re a player looking to play for a big team and get promoted to the Premier League.

“They won’t have trouble attracting that type of player, but they do have to get their recruitment right in order to get into the top two.”

Who will Leeds United sell in summer transfer window?

In terms of valuation, no player will land Leeds United more than Summerville, who is said to be on the radar of both Liverpool and Chelsea [Fabrizio Romano, 1 June].

Georginio Rutter would likely be next on that list, but Leeds have absolutely no chance of recouping anything close to the £35million splashed out to sign him just 16 months ago.

The aforementioned Gnonto and Gray are also possible big-money targets for Premier League vultures waiting to pounce following Leeds’ failure to earn promotion.

However, Farke would surely prefer to sell Harrison, say, than Gray – players who will likely be valued in the same region.

Hopefully, those out on loan in 2023-24 did enough for their loan clubs to be tempted to splash out. Once the deadwood is moved on, then we will have a better picture of how the squad is shaping up for next season.
