Don Goodman makes new Leeds United claim after draw at Norwich City

Don Goodman is still backing Leeds United to finish in the Championship’s top two this season, despite winning just half of their opening eight games.

The Whites were held 1-1 by Norwich City on Tuesday (1 October) and have 15 points from the 24 on offer, placing them fourth in the league.

Leaders Sunderland are three points better off, while Burnley in second are two points ahead.

Leeds have been unable to put together an extended run of wins so far, but Goodman says they are the one team in the league capable of doing so.

“I really was not, and am not, worried about Leeds United and where I see them being after 46 games, which is in the top two places,” he told MOT Leeds News.

If I had to pick one team who can go on a winning run and build up a gap on the rest, I’d pick Leeds United.”

Leeds United will soon find momentum

Leeds have strung together back-to-back wins on a couple of occasions across the first couple of months of the season, but have not yet been able to make it three in a row.

Norwich put paid to that in midweek following on from a 2-0 win at Cardiff City and a 3-0 victory at home to Coventry City.

The pressure is on Daniel Farke to take Leeds up this season, and every dropped point therefore feels like the end of the world.

Ultimately, though, drawing at Carrow Road is not a bad result. However, it does mean there is slightly more pressure on the trip to Sunderland on Friday (4 October).

Should Leeds win that then fans will no doubt turn focus to Farke over the two-week break; win it, though, and they could well go into that international hiatus in top spot.

The margins really are that fine right now, and that is not likely to change in this fascinating division.
