Don Goodman makes ‘arrogant’ claim after Leeds United exits

Don Goodman insists no player is irreplaceable on the back of a busy summer of turnover at Leeds United.

The Whites saw Archie Gray, Georginio Rutter, Crysencio Summerville and Glen Kamara leave – among others – for close to £100million combined.

Leeds have had a relatively positive start to the 2024-25 campaign, with a number of new faces slowly settling in, and Goodman does not believe the loss of big names should worry United fans.

“Every player is replaceable,” he told MOT Leeds News. “You can never be arrogant enough to think a player cannot leave a football club, whether a direct replacement or the team dynamic shifting.

“All the players who left were key players, but ultimately Leeds fell short last season and they each had opportunities to play in the Premier League. As a player, it’s difficult to turn that down.”

Leeds United adapting after busy summer transfer window

Seeing a large turnover of players is something Leeds fans have become accustomed to in recent windows.

While it would have been nice to see one more big name come in before the window shut, the business done was still positive on the whole.

Losing fan favourite Gray to Tottenham was the biggest frustration, while Georginio’s exit to Brighton so late in the window was also a tough one to take.

Daniel Farke now knows what he has to work with until at least January, though, and 16 points from nine matches is not the worst return.

Indeed, with this squad, and a manager with promotion-winning experience in Farke, going up to the Premier League still remains the only target this term.
