‘Doesn’t make him a bad player’ – Exclusive: Pundit claims £13m man has ‘had it tough’ at Leeds

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Paul Robinson has said that Robin Koch has “had it tough” since signing for Leeds in a £13m deal from Freiburg in the summer.

Robinson said he was culpable for the first Leicester goal after a miss-hit backpass but that it was just a “lapse in concentration”.

Koch has been the ever-present for Leeds this season, playing the full 90 minutes in every Premier League game.

Liam Cooper has missed three games through injury and Diego Llorente is still waiting for his Leeds debut after getting injured in the last international break.

Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News Robinson said, “It was a definite lapse in concentration early on from Robin Koch but he’s had it tough since he’s come in, and I don’t think it was a terrible performance from Leeds overall.

“Koch has had to play with Pascal Struijk, he’s had to play with Liam Cooper, he’s had to play with Luke Ayling.

“He’s been the only regular and he hasn’t been able to form a relationship with Cooper who will be his main partner for the season.

“Yes, he was culpable for last night but he’ll know that. It doesn’t make him a bad player, it’s just a lapse in concentration, a mistake, but it cost Leeds and changed the game.

“I’m glad Cooper came back in last night. They need to build up an understanding and a partnership. The sooner they do that the better for Leeds.”

Koch has put in a number of solid shifts for Leeds following the opening 4-3 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield.

The mistake last night was unfortunate and came in the first few minutes, directly after Patrick Bamford should have given Leeds the lead.
