‘Difficult’ – Exclusive: Pundit says it would be ‘very easy’ for one Leeds player to switch off

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Paul Robinson believes that it will be tough for Kiko Casilla to keep himself motivated at the moment due to him still being banned for six matches once football is back on.

In late February, Casilla, 33, was hit with an eight-match ban for racially abusing Jonathan Leko and before the Championship season was suspended, he only managed to serve two games of that ban.

It means that once football does resume, Casilla could still have several weeks to wait before he can be involved again.

The EFL are reportedly planning to resume the season in mid-June and Robinson does not see him being able to play for several weeks after that point.

“It would be very easy [to switch off] if you’re not playing for eight games. At the moment now, you know you’re not going to play for the first [six] of those so realistically, you’re not going to play for four, five or six weeks,” Robinson told MOT Leeds News.

“It’s difficult to stay professional when you’re not going to be involved because you know you’re not allowed to be involved.”

Casilla has been praised for his professionalism by Victor Orta since he was banned by the FA and there is no doubt that he is training hard at home to keep himself fit and healthy for when he is able to play again.

However, even once Casilla’s ban is over, will he even get a game?

Illan Meslier has done well since stepping in to replace the former Real Madrid goalkeeper with the 20-year-old Frenchman keeping two clean sheets in two games.

We might not see Casilla again this season, or at all if Leeds decide to get rid of him in the next transfer window.
