Daniel Farke to drop Brenden Aaronson for Leeds United v Sheffield United after USA development

Don Goodman would be surprised if Daniel Farke named Brenden Aaronson in the Leeds United starting line-up to face Sheffield United.

Aaronson was involved for the United States in their 2-0 friendly defeat to Mexico in the early hours of Wednesday morning (16 October).

The attacking midfielder now faces a lengthy trip back to the United Kingdom ahead of Friday night’s (18 October) big Championship showdown with Sheffield United at Elland Road.

Given the quick turnaround, Goodman fully expects Aaronson – a starter against Sunderland last time out and in seven of Leeds’ nine league matches – to be dropped to the bench.

“It’s the nature of the beast for these international players, especially those who play outside of Europe,” he told MOT Leeds News.

“The travel naturally brings on fatigue. Daniel Farke has lots of options in terms of where he plays Aaronson, but it’d be a real surprise to me if he was to start him against Sheffield United.

You’d imagine a place on the bench would be the order of the day. I wouldn’t start him in a massive, massive game.”

Daniel Farke frustrated over Brenden Aaronson minutes for USA

Speaking at Wednesday’s (16 October) pre-match press conference, Farke made clear he was not happy with Aaronson playing a full part for the USA against Mexico.

Many of Aaronson’s colleagues played just the one friendly this international window, in the win against Panama, before being released back to their clubs.

On the face of it, with just one possible training session before the visit of Sheffield United, there seems zero chance of Aaronson starting against the Blades.

The best bet is that he can make some sort of impact from the substitutes’ bench. It goes to show the importance of squad depth, and thankfully Leeds still have that in abundance up top.

In other Leeds United news, Goodman has made an “arrogant” claim with regards to the Whites’ summer transfer business.
