Daniel Farke sack pressure mounts after Leeds United disappointment v Burnley

Paul Robinson believes pressure will mount on Daniel Farke every time Leeds United lose due to the expectations at Elland Road this season.

Fans were quick to scrutinise the German after a slow start to the season, with an opening-day draw against newly promoted Portsmouth before being knocked out of the EFL Cup by Middlesbrough.

While Leeds looked to have gotten things back on track with three consecutive clean sheets, Farke’s side have suffered another setback in their quest to secure promotion, losing 1-0 at the hands of Burnley on Saturday 15 September.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “You’re always under pressure as a Leeds United manager in the Championship because the expectation is to get into the Premier League. After coming so close last season, the remit this time was to claim promotion.

“You’re always going to be under a huge amount of pressure as the Leeds manager, and the way they started the season with an indifferent result against Portsmouth before a really poor result against Middlesbrough in the EFL Cup, I thought people were questioning the club as well as Farke.

“They brought in over £100million worth of sales, and those sales against recruitment didn’t add up and it didn’t fulfil the remit of what was needed to replace what they lost.

“So, after that game, there was huge pressure on Farke already and questions being asked of him and the club, then there was the draw against West Brom and three clean sheets, which was followed by the disappointing 1-0 loss to Burnley.

“Every time Leeds lose, Farke is going to be coming under pressure. They’re sat in ninth, on eight points, five points behind West Brom. You don’t want to fall too far away. Unfortunately, as a Leeds manager, you’re going to be under that pressure.”

Daniel Farke under huge pressure at Leeds United

Leeds had a real opportunity to lay a marker against the Clarets at Elland Road, with Scott Parker’s side likely to rival them for one of the top spots this season.

Despite a full-strength starting XI, playing the same side that beat Hull City 2-0 before the international break, the Whites could not break the Burnley defence after Mateo Joseph’s “stinking” miss early on.

While the criticism of Farke is somewhat warranted, he looks to be the most likely figure to achieve promotion for Leeds, having guided Norwich City out of the Championship on two occasions.

In other Leeds United news, Jamie O’Hara has been slammed as a “clown” after what he said about the Whites.
