Daniel Farke lauded over Leeds United squad decision after what has happened at Elland Road

Paul Robinson was delighted to see Charlie Crew and Sam Chambers be handed their Leeds United senior debuts recently.

Crew, 18, and Chambers, 17, were both included in Daniel Farke’s squad to face Plymouth Argyle at the beginning of November, getting on the for the closing stages for the 3-0 win at Elland Road.

The Whites have been without midfield duo Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev due to a number of injuries emerging at Thorp Arch, leaving Farke with no choice but to look to his academy stars.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “I think the manager has to. His hands are tied at the minute with the amount of injuries. He’s got Patrick Bamford, Ethan Ampadu, Ilia Gruev and Largie Ramazani, even Joe Gelhardt.

“Charlie Crew has been knocking at the door for a long time now. There’s been a call for him to start games earlier in the season. He’s going to be a top-quality player and it just shows that the manager has trust in these players and he believes in them.

“That’s why they’re still at the club. They’ve not been sent out on loan. Quite often you see players of that age get sent out on loan, but these two players obviously have futures at the club. It’s fantastic for both of them.”

Charlie Crew and Sam Chambers earn Leeds United debuts

While the duo have not featured since, sitting on the bench for matches against Millwall and QPR, Farke clearly trusts the youngsters enough to include them in the matchday squad.

Josuha Guilavogui has been added to the squad as a free agent to reinforce the midfield spots, which looks to have been a sensible signing so far, but the teenagers give Farke a brand-new option.

It remains to be seen how much more game time these two will acquire over the rest of the season but their debuts will likely just be the start of the rest of their careers at Elland Road.
