Daniel Farke blasted for show of ‘desperation’ after ‘chaos’ at Leeds United
Noel Egan has criticised Daniel Farke after the Leeds United boss made five substitutions at once during the 3-0 defeat to Middlesbrough at Elland Road (14 August).
The ex-FIFA official claims the wholesale changes were a sign of “desperation” from Farke.
Leeds were knocked out of the EFL Cup in the first round following defeat to Middlesbrough. Farke brought on five players at once midway through the second half with the Whites already two goals down.
And Egan – speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News – doesn’t see the logic behind that decision.
“That is absolute chaos from the coach,” Egan said.
“It is worrying because he had already made several changes coming into the match, and then to make five changes at the same time is almost edging on the point of desperation.
“I don’t think the point of bringing in five substitutions was for tactical reasons, I believe it was introduced to the game to help manage player welfare.
“Therefore, to make five substitutions at once meant Farke had nothing in reserve if someone had got injured. I can’t see how this benefited the team.
“I would even go as far to say that the advantage was with Middlesbrough at that point. You’re bringing five fresh players into the team and there is no way they had trained for that.”
Daniel Farke and Leeds United must show signs of improvement at Elland Road
It has been a poor start to the season for the Whites.
They have yet to pick up a victory after three matches, with back-to-back draws in the Championship as well as the cup defeat to Middlesbrough.
Farke has lost several key players in recent weeks and will no doubt need some time to find a brand-new settled string lineup.

However, he needs to try and find a solution rather than later, and making five substitutions at once is probably not the best way to go about doing that.
