Dan Plumley: Leeds United sign really powerful deal with W Denis for local community
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...
Dan Plumley has insisted that Leeds United have signed off on a “really powerful” deal for the fanbase with W Denis becoming the latest partner.
The deal with W Denis was confirmed this month, with the local insurance broker taking their first step into football with their branding going across advertising boards at Elland Road.
Finance Expert, Plumley, admitted that these deals are not about the money, and is unlikely to be worth in the millions to the Whites as they keep parts of the club for the local community.
“I think it will be much lower value,” he exclusively told MOT Leeds News.
“It’s a bigger picture, you look at the gold-tier packages, that’s where the big money comes in, this is an example of the positives of keeping some local commercial partners, and being part of that community and a bit more about Leeds which really appeals on a non-financial basis, it’s not about the money.
“It does give you a platform to say you’re engaging with local providers, it’s keeping it in the community and giving something back and it’s really powerful with the fanbase.
“It’s unlikely to be in the millions.”
Leeds have tiered their sponsorship deals this season and it is really starting to pay off.
The likes of Hisense and Boost have paid the big money for larger deals in the Gold Tier, with the local partners likely paying much less to have their branding around Elland Road.
Installing the electrical advertising boards has taken the stadium to the next level, and has also opened the door for unlimited partnerships compared to the limited number that the old regime introduced.
Fans will like this one as it keeps that local feel, but there is nothing wrong with those big-money moves too, with a healthy comparison between the two – long may it continue.
