Councils happy to get on board with £200m Leeds United plans – Finance Expert

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...

Dan Plumley has insisted that councils are usually happy to get on board with redevelopment plans as Leeds United look at transforming Elland Road.

The Daily Mail has reported that Leeds chiefs are in talks with the council over plans to improve travel links and infrastructure around the stadium, as well as increasing capacity.

The finance expert admitted that will benefit both parties, as they can both win if everything is planned out properly and the money is spent wisely.

“A bit of both,” he exclusively told MOT Leeds News.

“If you can extend the capacity and the space around Elland Road, it will benefit the club but if you branch it out and work with the local council looking at the transport links to and from, putting some money linked to that project towards infrastructure wide, it can benefit the city as well.

That is why councils are quite welcome to get on board with that, so both sides can win in that regard if it is planned out properly and it can work for the club, and the city as well.”

Paraag Marathe has made it no secret that the £200million redevelopment of Elland Road is high on his list of priorities, but matters on the pitch may be taking centre-stage right now.

Things are a mess at the club with players leaving consistently and no real new additions being made to improve the squad on matchdays, with no wins from two Championship games so far.
