Cody Drameh ‘invaluable’ to Leeds United in the Championship after ‘inspired’ Luton Town loan move

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Cody Drameh’s Championship experience and positional versatility will set him to make an impact at Leeds United next season, according to Paul Robinson.

The 21-year-old had a successful loan spell at Luton Town in the second half of the 2022-23 campaign and helped the Hatters achieve an unlikely promotion to the Premier League, including playing the entire playoff final against Coventry City.

Now, Drameh is looking to earn more minutes next season upon his return to Leeds following their relegation, especially with the likes of Rasmus Kristensen departing the club on loan to join Roma.

Robinson claims that his versatility could be rewarded with plenty of playing time under Daniel Farke, especially if Luke Ayling is shifted to a central defensive role.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “Well, I think Drameh had a great loan move last year. It was an inspired move to go to Luton last year, he had a great season and he obviously got promotion with them.

“I think at that level of the Championship, the experience that he’s had and the promotion experience that he’s had will be invaluable at such a young age.

“The fact that he can play right back and left back as well is good. Luke Ayling is obviously gonna stay, so Drameh has got his work out for him.

“Whether Ayling plays centre-half or not depends on new signings. It’s still very, very early on in the window. I mean, there’s not been a lot of transfer of business, but you wait to see how the manager wants to play and how the manager wants to line up.

“If Farke sees Ayling as a centre-half, then there is a place at right-back for Drameh, but also a left-back as well.

“Drameh’s certainly a player that you would like to keep in and around the squad. I’m surprised that Luton haven’t come in and tried to buy him and take him on a permanent.

“But for Leeds next year, the experience he’s had in the Championship will be good and he’s a very, very good young player. It’d be invaluable to keep him.”
