‘Certainly start most games’ – Exclusive: Pundit reacts to big Leeds transfer claim by Phil Hay

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Paul Robinson has said that Said Benrahma is an “outstanding player” but thinks the priority at Leeds should be a number nine.

Athletic journalist Phil Hay said that Benrahma is the attacker Leeds want this summer, saying, “He’s the one” in his most recent podcast.

However, Hay also said that Chelsea were interested in the attacker and can offer Champions League football.

Talking exclusively to MOT Leds News, Robinson said of the Hay claim, “I think the priority should be a number nine. Listen, Benrahma is an outstanding player and he’d be a great addition to the side.

“He’d certainly start most games, if not every game for Leeds.

“If they can get him as well as a number nine then great, but that’s the real priority for me, to take some of the workload off Patrick Bamford.

“Bamford only scored 16 goals this season. Most teams around Leeds had a striker who scored 20+ goals and that’s what Leeds need most of all – a number nine who can score 20+ goals in the Premier League.”

Benrahma had a standout season with Brentford and we’d love to see him at Leeds.

Ironically, Leeds have also been linked with a move for Brentford striker Ollie Watkins, although the Bees value them both at a total of £50m+.
