Carlos Corbern to Leeds United verdict shared by Sky Sports pundit as ‘short memories’ claim made

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United

Paul Robinson believes Leeds United should avoid hiring Carlos Corberan as their new manager due to his close ties to Marcelo Bielsa.

The Telegraph reported on 2 June that the West Brom boss was under consideration as the board look to land a new man to steer Leeds back to the Premier League.

Robinson has since reacted to the news and has suggested Leeds need to move on from the Marcelo Bielsa era.

“I think it’s more the Bielsa rose-tinted glasses with Corberan. He’s been at Elland Road before. And those years are looked very fondly upon,” Robinson exclusively told MOT Leeds News.

“A lot of people have short memories and forget the way the team were playing and conceding goals. It was fantastic but it’s in the past. It’s done.

“You can’t look for the next Bielsa. I think if you go down the Corberan route – I think you are trying to emulate what Bielsa did. Trying to bring back that style of football and that type of management.

“If you go down that route, you are trying to emulate something that’s finished and done. They need to go down a new route, a new manager and new ideas.

“There’s a real opportunity to bottom it out now. Bring in a manager who works well with a sporting director. Bring in a team underneath them and let the manager have free rein of that.

‘I don’t think trying to emulate those special times is the way forward – I really don’t.”
