‘Can’t be happy’ – Pundit claims Bielsa has one big problem at Leeds this season

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Paul Robinson has said that Marcelo Bielsa “can’t be happy” at the options that he’s got when Kalvin Phillips is out for Leeds.

With the midfield talisman out, Bielsa has tried Pascal Struijk in the holding midfield role but he only lasted 20 minutes against Aston Villa.

In the 4-1 defeat to Leicester, Bielsa tried Mateusz Klich there with Jamie Shackleton in his more advanced role.

However, that didn’t work out either with Shackleton hooked at half-time.

Robinson thinks that it could force Leeds back into the transfer market this summer.

Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News Robinson said, “Leeds were without key players on Monday who could have had a big impact on the game.

“This is going to be the key issue for Leeds this season – do they have the depth in squad to count when injuries happen.

“The key player is Kalvin Phillips, though, and it’s something they could look at in January. They don’t need a replacement but they do need cover.

“Looking at the bench, there’s a lot of attacking options, but we’ve only got Leif Davies, Oliver Casey and Pascal Struijk as defensive options. Bielsa dragged Struijk off after 20 minutes against Villa.

“It’s a position he can’t be happy with when Kalvin Phillips isn’t playing.”

Leeds are far from a one-man team but they are short of a midfielder who can play when Phillips is out.

Robin Koch was earmarked for the position but he’s had to stay at the back with Diego Llorente out injured.
