Bundesliga expert shares lowdown as Leeds make Timo Werner transfer approach

Leeds United are eyeing Timo Werner as the transfer window grinds to a halt.

Werner has scored some great goals in his career, but the main criticism is that the former Chelsea striker does not do it regularly enough.

Leeds have already taken a chance on Dominic Calvert-Lewin, so another misfiring number nine may be a huge gamble for Daniel Farke.

Leeds have reached an agreement for Patrick Bamford to leave, so they do need an extra forward, but Werner is a strange choice for many observers.

Bundesliga expert shares Leeds verdict as Timo Werner approach revealed

Leeds have made an approach for Werner, alongside relegation rivals Burnley, as RB Leipzig look to get rid of the forward.

Hatchard believes that while it would take Werner a while to get up to speed, he could be a great signing for the Whites.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, he said: “He’d need a run of games and to stay fit, but I’ve always maintained there’s a great player in there. Leipzig are keen to let him go, as they have plenty of forward options”

Leeds may have to take Timo Werner risk

Given the short amount of time left in the transfer window and the lack of available strikers on the market, Leeds may have to settle for Werner.

At the very least, he has top-flight experience in English, featuring 87 times in the division in his spells in London.

He notched a total of 12 goals and 20 assists in those matches, which is not a bad return considering the criticism that he was constantly faced with.

He would add a vital bit of pace to Leeds’ forward line, which the likes of Calvert-Lewin, Lukas Nmecha and Joel Piroe are lacking, which could help Farke’s side to stretch defences, something they have been struggling with as they make the step up.

He could also be a useful weapon on the counter-attack for the Peacocks, which could help them to secure some unlikely results in their survival battle.
