Brenden Aaronson like a new signing as Leeds United benefit shared
Leeds United have what is effectively a “new signing” through the door in Brenden Aaronson, according to David Norris.
The American has returned from last season’s loan spell at Union Berlin and already scored two goals in three Championship appearances.
Daniel Farke – having let go of the majority of his returning loanees from last term – sees Aaronson as a key part of his squad and the attacking midfielder has garnered plaudits already.
Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, former Whites man Norris said: “Aaronson has done really well since he’s come back.
“He came on and scored against Portsmouth in the first game and then had a real chance to get another one; he’s come in and done a really good job.
“He’s effectively a new signing for Leeds, a new player. They have such a small squad at the moment that it benefits Aaronson, in that this is a new start for him at the club.”
Brenden Aaronson enjoys new Leeds United chapter
The phrase “like a new signing” has become very cliched down the years and usually applies to players who have endured a long time on the treatment table, but Aaronson’s situation is slightly different.
After a loan in the Bundesliga which could have gone better or worse, the USMNT international at least played regular games and has come back to Thorp Arch in good shape, and raring to go in the Championship – more than some quarters had given him credit for.
His performance was key in securing all three points at Sheffield Wednesday on Friday night, and his impact against Portsmouth was crucial – albeit a double-edged sword following his agonising miss. But it happens.

It’s almost a redemption period for Aaronson now at Elland Road, and he’s getting Farke and any doubting supporters back onside.
As Norris says, the nature of the squad at the moment means the 23-year-old will continue to get regular football, and if he stays fit can be the driving force behind a promotion bid.
