Brenden Aaronson future already in doubt at Leeds United already after £30m Sky Sports update - pundit

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…

Brenden Aaronson’s future at Leeds United is in “doubt” after the signing of Weston McKennie in January, according to Paul Robinson.

Leeds signed McKennie, 24, on a loan-to-buy deal from Juventus last month with a £30million permanent transfer lined up for the summer [Sky Sports].

McKennie is a versatile central midfielder who can play in a defensive or box-to-box role and due to his experience and stature in the game, Robinson believes he’ll come into the Leeds starting line-up alongside Tyler Adams.

However, Robinson is unsure whether it’ll be Marc Roca or 22-year-old Aaronson who makes way for the Juventus loanee.

He does suggest that Aaronson could be axed though due to the USA international’s declining form since the World Cup.

“I suspect we’ll see Tyler Adams play alongside Weston McKennie,” Robinson told MOT Leeds News.

Where that leaves Marc Roca, I don’t know.

And I think it throws even more doubt over Brenden Aaronson’s future.

He’s been fairly poor recently.

I know Jesse Marsch signed him and I know he likes him but if you look at the players coming in now, they’re players who’d play ahead of Aaronson.”

Leeds started their pursuit of Aaronson last January while Marcelo Bielsa was still in charge but due to the fact Red Bull Salzburg were in the knock-out stages of the Champions League, it made a deal impossible.

Bielsa was sacked and replaced by American manager Marsch, who then made Aaronson his first signing of the summer when he arrived from Salzburg for £24.7million [Sky Sports].

He’s since played 22 times in all competitions for Leeds, scoring one goal and supplying two assists.

None of them have come since the season resumed after the World Cup, where he struggled to get game-time for the USA.
