Automatic promotion ‘realistic’ Leeds United hope despite difficult Championship start – Pundit

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United …

Leeds United can “realistically” finish their Championship season in the automatic promotion spots, according to Paul Robinson.

Daniel Farke did not have an ideal start to life in Yorkshire, with poor performances against Birmingham City and an early League Cup exit triggering concerns amongst the promotion-hungry Elland Road faithful.

However, Farke answered any doubters by sustaining an unbeaten Championship run since the second game of the season, including emphatic 3-0 victories over Watford and Millwall.

Robinson is “really excited” about where the Whites could end up this season, suggesting that immediate promotion straight back to the Premier League is certainly on the cards after improved performances have lifted Leeds into sixth place.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “You look at the squad now, they’ve still got a decent injury list. There are five players in the physio room that would be challenging for a starting spot.

“I’ll be honest, I’m really excited about where they are at the moment. It was difficult because the manager came in late and will be rotated in and out of the side this season.

“But you look at the side, you look at what the manager is able to do now he’s getting players back and he’s got those five in the physio room that missed the weekend.

“Willy Gnonto, Patrick Bamford, Djed Spence, Stuart Dallas and Junior Firpo will hopefully we will be back soon just to strengthen that squad.

“Leeds haven’t been beaten since matchday two in the Championship. I know there’s been a couple of different performances in there, like the draw against Sheffield Wednesday which was not ideal, but you look at where they are now.

“There’s certainly work in progress. I watched them at the weekend against Watford, they were excellent. They came back into the game after a slow start, dominated the game, got the goals and won comfortably.

“I’m really optimistic going forward now. There’s a realistic hope that they can finish in the top two and bounce straight back.”
