Archie Gray has ‘fantastic Leeds United DNA’ and is set to ‘excel’ at Elland Road

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United …

Archie Gray has “fantastic Leeds DNA” and is set to have an “exciting” Leeds United career following his excellent performances in the opening games of the season, according to Paul Robinson.

The 17-year-old has started all three of Leeds’ matches so far this season and has displayed himself admirably throughout considering his age and inexperience.

Gray earned high praise from Daniel Farke who, as quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post (7 August), called the youngster’s performance against Cardiff City “top class” and “outstanding”.

Robinson has backed the academy graduate to excel at the club and has commended his ability to handle the “weight of the jersey” at such a young age.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said: “Anybody at 17 years of age that the manager teams fit to start for Leeds United has got a real future in the game.

“He’s got a fantastic Leeds DNA, he’s got a huge family history with the club, but that means nothing if you’re not a good player.

“You can have a great family tree and you can have a great pedigree, but at the end of the day, you have to cross the white line and you have to perform and he’s done that at every level.

“Now he’s been given his opportunity at the top level and he’s been given his opportunity at the top level because people at the club think he can do it.

“You saw at the weekend that he can play first-team football at 17 years of age and the quality that he showed and the way he took things in his stride. He didn’t look out of place.

“You can forget how young 17 is sometimes, that’s a kid who’s just out of school! To handle the big stage at such a young age with the expectation that comes to play for Leeds United and the weight of the jersey.

“The fans will always get behind young players, the homegrown players and it’s a fantastic place to play as a youngster.

“He’s another one that will come through and I think he really will excel, he’s excelled at every level, coming through the ranks at international level as well.

“There’s exciting times ahead for him.”
