Paul Robinson makes Patrick Bamford-England prediction
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United.
Paul Robinson believes that Leeds United forward Patrick Bamford will find it “very difficult” to earn another England cap.
The Whites talisman made his debut against Andorra last weekend, but failed to find the back of the net and received harsh criticism.
Robinson hit back at those critics but insisted that when every striker is fit, Bamford could fail to get another chance under Gareth Southgate.
Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said, “He’s fully deserved his cap.
“Whether he gets another one, time will tell. I’m surprised Mason Greenwood has been kept so far away from it.
“Patrick deserved his opportunity, it’s always going to be difficult on your debut to score, but against Andorra, it was the perfect opportunity for him.
“Criticism was harsh, but I think he thoroughly deserved his cap, but I think going forward he’s going to find it very difficult to get another cap”
As mentioned, Greenwood is the name on everyone’s lips right now and if he continues scoring, it looks as though he could be hard to ignore.
Should Bamford do the same though, why wouldn’t he warrant his spot in the squad that he has worked so hard for in the past three years at Elland Road.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Callum Wilson and Ollie Watkins have all had their own injury issues recently and will be providing stern competition too.
There couldn’t be more competition in one area than the final third as we speak, so Bamford will need to keep his head down and start finding the back of the net to prove everyone wrong.
