49ers will use investors when they want at Leeds United – Finance Guru
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...
Dan Plumley has insisted that the 49ers Enterprises will unlikely use their sports star investors to make big decisions at Leeds United.
The likes of Jordan Spieth and Michael Phelps have been confirmed as investors at the club, but it is unlikely that they are there to do more than create positive PR.
The finance guru admitted that they will likely be around the edges of the club, with the 49ers having their own board and directors to run the club on their watch.

“That is the challenge with this,” he exclusively told MOT Leeds News.
“What is the purpose of them being involved? Is it from an investment point of view with money involved there? It is unlikely that you would let, no disrespect to them, have a kind of shareholder agreement or meaningful say in decision-making.
“It is more around the fringes and that creates positive PR, of course, it does, you can spin that a number of ways like linking up with the brand and profile of the club, linking it to very-high profile sports stars which can, in theory, work in your favour.
“I think the crux of it is, behind the scenes, what is the purpose of their involvement? How does that feed into strategic decision-making, that’s what I’d be focusing on.

“I get the sense that they will be around the edges, and there will be a board and directors that run the club and set the vision, and they will use these people as and when they need to.”
