49ers takeover to kickstart Leeds United transfer spree – Finance Expert

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...

Dan Plumley has insisted that Leeds United will start more transfer movement now that the 49ers Enterprises takeover of the club has been confirmed.

The finance expert admitted that it should last beyond the start of the Championship season, with the window not closing until September.

Leeds confirmed their first senior transfer of the window today (19 July) with Ethan Amapdu arriving from Chelsea for upwards of £7million.

“You might see more movement now,” he exclusively told MOT Leeds News.

“A lot of things hinge on the takeover, and it does affect everything, transfers may have been pending then you have players and agents, and all kinds of stakeholders involved.

It’s easy to see why that’s potentially held up a few deals, and easy to see why it could lead to a few deals as the season gets closer. Also, for Leeds United, some of the cushions they’ve got that would have eased that, the parachute payments and being able to keep a few players is half the battle.

It softens the blow with the takeover but it’s not a surprise that things will ramp up again. We forget the window doesn’t close until September so we can expect movement in the early part of the season as well.”

With numerous players having already left and more potentially leaving, Ampadu is just the start of what the 49ers will want to do over the next few weeks.

The team that lines up against Cardiff on the first day of the season could be different to what ends the window at Elland Road, with more movement expected for weeks.
