49ers can kick on with £200m Leeds United plans after takeover twist – Finance Expert

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...

Dan Plumley has insisted that it is no surprise to see Elland Road expansion plans moving forward at Leeds United under the 49ers Enterprises after the change in takeover price.

The Daily Mail has reported that work at Elland Road has been estimated to cost £200million to take the capacity of the stadium beyond 50,000, and has already begun with plans drawn up.

The 49ers eventually agreed on a £170million takeover price after relegation, with it initially being over £400million for the club as a Premier League side.

“Absolutely, this is where you see some of the benefits to the 49ers and the lower takeover price,” he exclusively told MOT Leeds News.

This means that you can now push forward with these investments and it can balance it out.

Given that, it is no surprise to see that plans are moving forward and because of that, the more you can realise that revenue once the new seats are in place.

If you’re back in the Premier League by then, you can stretch that even further with hospitality offers as well.”

Paraag Marathe has made it no secret that he wants the club to kick on under the stewardship of the 49ers Enterprises, and this is the first sign of that already.

With the Championship season kicking off on Sunday, it will be interesting to see when work can officially begin, with big plans ready for the new future of the club.
